The Battle of Bedtime

March 06, 2017 Kate Saunders

We have had a great day, my toddlers and I! We had a friend over to play, pottered in the garden and went to the pool and now it is time to go to bed. So why won't he go to sleep?!

He doesn't just lay down and close his eyes. NO!! He wants a glass of water, a sandwich, another try on the potty. And all I can think is this is my time, MY TIME!!!

My mind starts to wander... I could be doing the dishes, folding laundry, preparing lunches for tomorrow or god-forbid watching TV!

So, out comes our bedtime favourite! The Number One Bestseller 'The Rabbit Who Wants To Fall Asleep' written by Swedish psychologist Carl-Johan Forseen Ehrlin, claims to bring an end to bedtime dramas. This book uses carefully researched techniques including yawning by the reader (works a treat if you haven't tried this one!), and instructions to read the text calmly and slowly.

The Rabbit Who Wants To Fall Asleep is slightly longer than your typical bedtime story but gives little ones lots of time to drift off to dreamland, which is a lot more relaxing than the alternative...
